After sharing federal updates, the series features lessons learned and best practices from faculty, staff, schools, districts, institutions of higher education, and other places of educational instruction. It also shares a variety of useful resources.

Engaging all students is essential for creating a positive school climate and a sense of belonging for students. This is especially important for student groups who are more likely to experience acts of discrimination, hate, and violence. In order for students to learn and participate fully in school, they need to be present, feel safe, and belong. This session is the second in the Free to Learn miniseries, which offers evidence-based practices to prevent, address, and ameliorate the effects of bullying, violence and hate while also supporting school safety, school-based mental health, and positive school climates. We will begin with an overview that explores why students disengage and key strategies to support all students in meaningfully participating in school. Then, we will hear from a panel of practitioners who will share effective strategies for engaging a diverse population of students, as well as lessons learned and future considerations.
