Writing Revenge Shop Talk

  • South Seattle Community College, Georgetown Campus 6737 Corson Avenue South Seattle, WA, 98108 United States (map)

Please join us for a shop talk presented by Sydney PK from The NW Network of Bi, Trans, Lesbian and Gay Survivors of Abuse-

As advocates, we see every day the limitations of our criminal legal systems to uphold a semblance of justice for survivors of rape and sexual abuse. For queer and trans people, people of color, and others at the margins, we find ourselves actively targeted, misunderstood, or criminalized in our efforts to survive. Surviving violence, not just in an instant but in a lifetime navigating the impacts of trauma, isn 't always pretty or clean; it can be biting, kicking, screaming, ugly. In the emotional roller coasters of trauma, anger can be especially challenging. Some survivors struggle to access anger while others may be terrified of the extent of their rage, their capacity for destruction, their hunger for vengeance. This workshop explores historical and cultural narratives of revenge fantasy in horror media, normalizes revenge fantasies for survivors and advocates alike, and offers tangible strategies to engage survivors in safely expressing their anger. If you have ever had Enough, wanted to Spit on someone' s Grave, or felt like a Monster, this workshop is for you.
