Why do so many young people who have experienced commercial sexual exploitation walk away from the placements and programs built to keep them safe? Why does the relationship so often fall apart right when it matters most? And what are the adults who manage to stay connected doing differently?

Most of the systems that serve exploited youth are built around compliance. Young people who have been exploited learned to read adults quickly, and many have already been let down by the people and programs that promised to help. An intake form or a safety plan can’t create trust with these youth. It gets built slowly, through small moments, by adults who stay consistent when things get hard.
This webinar brings together three leaders doing this work from different angles to talk about:
Why youth who have experienced CSEC often push back against the services designed for them, and how to read that behavior
Where systems tend to get it wrong, from first contact through placement and court involvement
What building trust looks like day to day: honesty, consistency, and follow-through
How to stay connected through leaving placement, setbacks, and ongoing contact with exploiters
If you work with youth in child welfare, juvenile justice, residential care, education, health care, or advocacy, this conversation is for you.
