A new training in the 2025 HPSO Virtual Training Series will focus on the role that courts and system partners can play in building trust with families involved in dependency court. This roundtable discussion brings together a Judge, Commissioner, Social Worker, and Lived Experts – a former parent and a former youth – to share their perspectives on what helps and hinders the courts in being a system that families can trust. Together, they will explore practices that foster respect, transparency, and collaboration at early stages, such as shelter care hearings. The conversation will highlight how judicial officers, attorneys, and social workers can set the tone for engagement, support family connections, and recognize the humanity of those involved, even in moments of crisis.
