Research, analysis and policy conclusions on prostitution and trafficking from CAP International
All over the world, women and girls from the most discriminated communities are over-represented in prostitution and human trafficking. Poor, Indigenous, migrant, asylum-seeking, displaced women, those from the lowest castes and from ethnic, religious and racial minorities are the first victims of pimps and sex buyers. But how can we get beyond a simple analysis of the prostitution and trafficking systems in terms of sanitary risks as is typically done?
That's why, CAP international undertook a two year long research endeavor covering 50 countries and involving 30 field experts working with prostituted persons and leaders of the communities most impacted by prostitution. The resulting report, “Last Girl First” provides an overview of the intersectional oppressions fostering the systems of prostitution & trafficking for sexual exploitation. By tracing the roots of these systems, this study highlights the realities of prostitution & trafficking and the insidious way in which broad patterns of domination such as patriarchy, racism, colonialism, imperialism, classism, capitalism, war and militarization shape them and lead to the sexual exploitation of the most marginalized.
