THIRD ANNUAL eQUALITY CONVENING:
We are pleased to announce this year’s keynote for the Third Annual eQuality Convening on June 29th, Jawara McDuffie!
Jawara is a Black, gay, cisgender man from the South. Formerly incarcerated himself, he has spent nearly 20 years working primarily with youth to keep them out of jails and prisons. From his roles as a Youth Development Counselor at Seattle Youth Employment Program (SYEP), to Criminal Justice Strategic Advisor with the Office for Civil Rights, he has put in the work. Jawara earned his B.A. in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Master of Social Work from the University of Washington. Those educational aspirations were fueled by his determination to help young folks avoid some of the challenges he faced as a youth. In addition to being a prison abolitionist, he is also a world traveler, former collegiate athlete, and advocate for social justice. Jawara wants the world to be a better place, and he is playing his part to make it just that!
