Join Northwest Network virtually the week of March 22nd for two special training sessions in a special collaboration with LGBTQ+ programs in Ottawa!

For providers - March 23rd from 8am-2pm PST

Intimate partner abuse relies on a pattern of power, control and exploitation established by one person over another. To identify if a person is establishing such a pattern, it is important to go beyond a simple checklist of abusive behaviors. Developed over 30 years of work with LGBTQ survivors of intimate partner violence, the Northwest Network’s approach to assessment continues to be a fundamental consideration and practice for any organization hoping to create relevant, accessible support for LGBTQ individuals, as well as broadly expanding capacity to holistically respond to the experiences of all survivors. This session will center on the importance of building awareness of the context of LGBTQ people’s lives as a key component in supporting creative, effective advocacy with LGBTQ survivors. We will be offering an exciting introduction to the Northwest Network’s tool and analysis on assessing patterns of power and control in abusive relationships and using real-life examples, role-play, observation and hands-on exercises for participants to deepen their understanding and build capacity to conduct assessments.
