An Introduction to Human Trafficking: Theory and Practice 

Registration is now open for An Introduction to Human Trafficking: Theory and Practice webinar presented by Freedom Network Training Institute. This training is a 2-hour session designed for new professionals in the anti-trafficking field or new to their role. The training will give participants a foundation of human trafficking theory and practice. Participants will learn what human trafficking is, what legal and social services are available to survivors, and practice points within those professions. The training will explore case studies and give practical tools for service provision. The session will be delivered by practitioners in the field who will share best practices.

 Alicia Kinsman, Esq. Attorney
Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants (CIRI)


 Alicia R. Kinsman, Esq. obtained her JD from Quinnipiac University School of Law. She runs a small legal practice and provides technical support and training with the Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants (CIRI), where she has worked since 2010. In her law practice, Attorney Kinsman provides legal assistance to vulnerable immigrants and their families, focusing a large part of her practice on serving and empowering foreign-born victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other serious crimes. 

Maja Hasic Anti-Human Trafficking Program Director

Tapestri, Inc.  

Maja Hasic serves as the Anti-Human Trafficking Program Director with Tapestri, Inc., a non-profit social service agency that works with survivors of violence from the immigration and refugee community. Ms. Hasic designs and provides training and outreach to mainstream service providers, law enforcement, and community organizations on human trafficking locally, state-wide, and national. Currently, Ms. Hasic works to establish relationships with other non-profit organizations and law enforcement around the issue of human trafficking.

Evelyn Chumbow Survivor Activist

Baker & McKenzie LLP  

Evelyn Chumbow is a survivor of child labor trafficking turned anti-trafficking activist and public speaker who focuses her life’s work on ending modern-day slavery. Today, Ms. Chumbow works tirelessly to raise awareness in communities to create employment opportunities for trafficking survivors. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Human Trafficking Legal Center and Free the Slaves. She has been invited to brief government agencies about human trafficking from a survivor’s perspective, including the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, the State Department, and the Department of Justice.
