Justice for Girls Digital Town Hall

Join Justice for Girls for a digital Town Hall conversation for girl*-serving partners and youth on August 5th from 4-5:30p PDT! At the Town Hall, we want to hear from girls (female-identified youth) about how their lives are being impacted by violence and a lack of safety, at a county/regional/community level, as well as spark conversations about what we can do collectively to address the violence, safety and mental health challenges that disproportionately happen in communities and schools impacted by systemic racism and a history of being under-resourced as a result. Using county level WA state data that we have compiled (see our attached Fact Sheet!), we plan to use a social determinants of health framework and lay out disparities in where girls live, attend school and play due to systemic racism.

Through our various national and state partnerships, we know that when we ask girls and gender-expansive youth what they need, they want safety from violence, gender-responsive and culturally relevant educational opportunities, access to caring adults, and their voices to be heard at decision-making tables. Shelter-in-place orders and school closures are not only exacerbating girls’ needs, but also severely impacting our capacity as girls' champions to continue meeting their needs. (Check out recent data snapshots on girl’s needs from data JFG collected, Alliance for Girls and Girls@theMargin.) To that end, we would like to invite you to attend our town hall where we will center girl voice and provide a platform to engage in meaningful dialogue on girls’ needs.

This event is youth-led and will feature youth speakers. We encourage girls’ champions, community leaders, and adult allies to join and listen to the voices of youth. All youth who attend the town hall will have the opportunity to enter a raffle to win a $25 gift card (15 winners total!). We will also provide all attendees with resources and opportunities to engage in local advocacy efforts after the event.

And please forward to youth who might want to attend!
